Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of attitudes towards economics in biblical texts. The main reason for interest in the problem is the highest authority of the Christian Holy Scripture, which causes many to strive to make biblical texts the basis for their ideas. For example, both supporters and opponents of a market economy often appeal to Christianity to justify their ideas. Therefore, the analysis of the biblical attitude toward the market economy remains relevant and requires continuation. The specific problem addressed in the article is the identification of the biblical attitude towards the foundations of a market economy and its impact on humans. The research method is, first of all, system analysis, due to the systemic nature of society and the economy itself. The study uses as an information base the biblical texts themselves, the works of early Christian authors, and the research of modern scientists on this topic. The article substantiates the absence of a contradiction between Christianity and the foundations of a market economy. The Old Testament regulates all the basic elements of a market economy, which indicates their recognition and compliance with the Divine will. In the New Testament, the market economy is used as a backdrop for the allegorical preaching of Christ, which may also indicate its acceptability in Christianity. The Bible also contains an awareness of the influence of economics on human life, which can compete with religious motives. To block such competition, the biblical texts suggest social and ethical restrictions and charity.
