Abstract: The implications of international migration-development nexus have long been debated by academics and policy experts in the field. Empirical and theoretical studies are generally divided into two groups as optimistic and pessimistic approaches. With the adoption of 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals in 2015, in particular, optimistic approaches that emphasise the need for a development-oriented perspective have gained considerable prominence in order to manage global migration effectively. This study primarily aims to examine how the relationship between migration and development is played out in above-mentioned debates in light of theoretical and empirical data. It later assesses how the relationship between international migration and development is addressed in recently adopted international instruments such as the 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals, Global Compact on Migration and Global Compact on Refugees.
