The One Team approach: How Dell EMC brought together competitive, disparate service providers across EMEA to create a united real estate and FM family

Bruce Barclay

Corporate Real Estate Journal, 2018, vol. 7, issue 3, 202-214

Abstract: Headlines in Europe continue to talk divorce, with the split between the UK and the EU becoming increasingly acrimonious. The divorce bill is rising and talks are breaking down as this once close partnership becomes sharply discordant. Amid all this disharmony, Dell EMC, the global leader in information technology-as-a-service, has been a leading light in European partnership. Its award-winning programme has seen a group of competitive, disparate service providers across Europe brought together with internal stakeholders to create a One Team Real Estate and Facilities business family working together in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The brief was to seek new ways of driving efficient and effective business processes based on strategic alignment, consistency and service excellence, to create an environment where innovation could flourish. Over a three-year programme which included face-to-face leadership summits, and consistent communication across the supply chain, the group worked together to define and implement a common operating platform, underpinned by a shared vision and values. This paper explores the success of the One Team model, how it was achieved and the results it delivered to the business — and what other real estate and facilities professionals around the world can learn from the approach.
