The impact of security measures on small, commercial service airports: One perspective

Abstract:
After the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, the United States (US) government created the Transportation Security Administration as the ‘watchdog’ of US transportation modes. Today new security measures are implemented with little to no participation by the customers impacted. Recently imposed security measures in aviation directly impact the small, commercial airports within the USA that accommodate commercial service but also house general aviation (GA) activities. With the issuance of the latest security directive, airport officials have been forced to implement costly security upgrades with no funding and risk losing GA tenants in the aftermath of the mandated changes.
