Operational leadership of total airport management

Abstract:
Total airport management (TAM) offers a revolutionary way forward, not only for airport management, but for aviation management at the airport locus. Building on the emerging operational innovations of airport collaborative decision making (A-CDM), TAM will integrate the individual passenger and unit of cargo into the aviation system. This will have profound and positive implications for service quality as well as revenue yield, productivity and efficiency across all aviation and aviation-related value chains. The management prerogative of TAM ultimately would be with a new organisational unit spanning all participating aviation and non-aviation actors at an airport (the TAM actors) represented by their executive agent, the TAM director. The paper discusses the possible job description of the TAM director and further speculates on the actual performance of their duties in an operational environment of the future.
