Development and use of the dynamic security model for airports

Abstract:
In 2004, the US Department of Homeland Security shifted the focus of airport security to incorporate the need to rapidly adapt security to shifting threats. In response to that need, The MITRE Corporation developed the Dynamic Airport Security Model. The model was developed as part of a MITRE-sponsored research project on attacker and defence behaviour in the airport environment. The model, a fast-time desktop simulation, accepts the airport layout, security procedures and threat vectors (path-weapon combinations) as inputs and models the performance of the airport's defence against those threat vectors. This agent-oriented simulation includes two intelligent agents: the attacker and the defence. Agent logic includes both decision making and learning.
