A study of the effects of low-cost carrier market participation on Gimpo International Airport

Abstract: The Korean air transport market is constantly changing due to the market participation of low-cost carriers (LCCs). The overarching goal of this paper is to investigate the effects of LCCs on Korean airports. The main focus of this paper is to analyse what effects have emerged with respect to the air traffic and revenue structure of Gimpo International Airport, which plays the role of a base airport for LCCs in Korea. As a result of the analysis, entry into the market by LCCs is shown to have had a positive effect on the number of passengers and flights, and airport revenue also has continuously increased.
