Abstract: Technology systems now play a larger role in the commercial air travel industry than ever before. This is being characterised as ‘digital transformation’, and the options, challenges and issues it presents to airports are, at times, overwhelming. This paper presents a discussion of what digital transformation is and how airports may intelligently and thoughtfully move their operations and systems into a more technologically dynamic and efficient space. It also provides some guidance on the risks and challenges associated with this complex issue.
