What one must know about achieving BS25999-2 certification

Abstract: In September 2008, Vodafone UK announced that it had become the world’s first mobile operator to achieve BS25999 certification, the leading industry standard for business continuity management systems. Vodafone UK achieved the standard for its 2G voice network in recognition of the robust processes it has put in place to ensure continuity of service for enterprise and consumer customers in the event of unexpected incidents, such as power failures or natural disasters. This paper outlines the experiences of working toward certification for BS25999-2 and describes the value that certification can bring to the organisation and how much work is involved. The author offers the benefit of his first-hand experience in securing the BS25999 standard, from getting resources in place, navigating through the maze of terminology, to successfully completing the audit, with best practice always front of mind.
