Abstract: This paper describes how Alberta Health Services (AHS) has learned from the various disasters in the province to develop a more coordinated approach to psychosocial response and recovery. It will explain the impact of disasters, typical stress reactions, the theoretical underpinnings of psychosocial response and recovery, while also highlighting some key successes and strategies used at AHS.
