Lessons learnt from the Victorian Building Authority’s cladding audit in 2015

Abstract: This paper provides a brief history of the first audit of cladding conducted in Australia, commencing in 2015, and provides details on the lessons learnt from the process. This includes the need for regulators to set clear expectations when addressing non-compliant issues, the standard of certification by practitioners and greater clarity in the construction codes. Some material from this paper has been drawn from previous submissions by the VBA to other bodies, such as the Australian Federal Senate Parliamentary Inquiry into Non- Conforming Building Products (Senate Inquiry).
