Sarah Saunders
Journal of Digital Media Management, 2012, vol. 1, issue 1, 39-47
Abstract:
This paper focuses on the relationship between DAM vendor and client company, and discusses how working practices and cultures within the client company can affect the outcome of the project. The tension between creative and technical ways of thinking is highlighted, and a number of success factors relating to the way a DAM project is managed by the client are discussed. Teamwork and communication between stakeholders, realistic assessment of resources and project scope, appropriate project management style, and the need for a partnership between DAM vendor and client are highlighted. The article is informed by the experience of the author and of two major DAM system providers, and provides a practical overview of the process of planning and implementing DAM, designed to help DAM buyers make best use of their resources.
