Semantics in the Library of Babel (with hobbits)

Abstract:
Today, most digital asset management systems make use of search and taxonomies of keywords to classify asset metadata. In the very near future, however, semantic technology — a kind of SQL for the web — will facilitate the arrival of digital asset management systems capable of reasoning intelligently, using natural language queries, in orders to both classify and find the resources that people work with more intelligently. This paper demonstrates the basics of semantic technology and shows how it can be used to make inferences about content both by humans and by machines.
