Abstract:
Organisational culture, politics and psychology are all factors that affect digital asset management (DAM) and information governance within an organisation, specifically in the corporate environment. There exists a wealth of information available online pertaining to DAM, but little focusing on the marriage between the psychological, political and domain-specific concepts, such as information governance, which inevitably follow with any DAM implementation. This paper presents a case study of the major retailer, JCPenney, which shows how organisational culture influenced DAM implementation; ways to mitigate pitfalls caused by the organisation itself; and a call to focus on innovation to survive the digital technology landscape of the future.
