Abstract:
The University of Maryland (UMD) Libraries have developed a sustainable, centralised digitisation infrastructure funded by a collaborative approach under the Digitization Initiatives Committee. This process has not only increased digitisation capacity and preserved and made many more of the Libraries’ collections accessible online, but has also influenced the infrastructure surrounding digitisation activities and the way the Libraries manage digital storage and preservation. This paper describes the history and evolution of digitisation, capacity for funding projects at the Libraries, and resulting future opportunities.
