Abstract: The Revs Institute is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit museum, library and archive. This case study describes five large-scale changes made by the institution based on a strategic plan for its library and archive. One of the largest changes was deciding to streamline library workflows in order to bring one of the most resource-intensive projects, digitisation and the resulting digital library, from subsidised to self-sustaining. The other large-scale changes dealt with creating a more effective image sales system, enhancing library and archive visibility, promoting use of the collections, and connecting the library’s systems for ease of patron use. While this case study focuses on Revs, an automotivefocused institution, it is essentially about an institution strategising to enhance its overall sustainability, self-sufficiency and visibility. The case study concludes that the best way for an institution to ensure its durability is to be as efficient, purpose-driven and user-focused as possible.
