Abstract: This paper embarks on a comprehensive analysis of the global data protection climate, emphasising the imperative of adhering to the stringent data protection standards exemplified by the EU. By discussing the prominent case of a significant fine imposed on Meta1 and the adoption of new data protection legislation across the world, the paper underscores the mounting importance of privacy and data protection in an increasingly digital and interconnected world. Additionally, it delves into the practicalities of ensuring data protection, examining strategies such as data minimisation and de-identification and exploring the role of privacy by design principles in safeguarding privacy rights while facilitating technological advancement.
