A significant shift in card business terms

Abstract:
The European Commission is proposing to alter radically the traditional commercial and operational models that apply to card payments. Card fees charged to merchants are expected to fall significantly from 2015 onwards and, by 2016/17, the rules of card acceptance will also change. In addition, international and domestic card schemes will need to restructure their business frameworks and methods of operation. This paper examines the impact of these changes on the principal stakeholders and assesses the potential outcomes.
