The ETF industry: A retrospective and suggestion for the future

Abstract:
The exchange traded funds (ETF) industry has developed a long way since its inception. This article provides an overview and analysis of past and current regulatory developments affecting the ETF and wider asset management industry, and the steps that ETF product providers need to take to stay relevant in the current environment. These include improving their cost efficiencies when managing a multi-jurisdiction platform and innovating new ways to raise distribution levels for their product.
