Moving the USA to T+2 settlement

Lee A. Schneider, Lilya Tessler and Clare K. Lascelles

Journal of Securities Operations & Custody, 2017, vol. 9, issue 2, 106-116

Abstract: For over 20 years, the standard settlement time frame in the United States for most securities transactions has been three business days. Over the last 18 months, regulators and industry participants have taken steps to shorten the settlement cycle to two business days. This paper explores key regulations and rules that will be affected by the transition, and describes steps industry participants may consider to prepare for a shorter settlement cycle.
