Transport planning for an Olympic Games
Peter Hendy
Journal of Urban Regeneration and Renewal, 2012, vol. 5, issue 4, 330-345
Abstract:
Hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games, the biggest and most prestigious sporting events in the world, is a privilege for any city. London, of course, is special for becoming the first city to hold the modern Games three times. But as previous Games have demonstrated, the privilege comes with great responsibility. Nobody wants the London Games to be remembered because elite athletes were held up in traffic jams and missed their events. This paper sets out to show that, in terms of transport planning, the responsibility has been taken extremely seriously. Strategic and detailed transport planning effort has been undertaken over a period of ten years.
