Abstract: This paper has been written to confirm the economic value of our traditional main street centres as we move into a digital world of smart cities, online shopping and increasingly digital, rather than physical interaction. It highlights the need for, and benefit of, traditional centres to be supported as they continue to evolve and address the emerging issues of the 2020s, in the same way that they have evolved in line with urban evolution over the past 200 years.
