Risk management for financial institutions in an age of populism

Journal of Risk Management in Financial Institutions, 2017, vol. 10, issue 4, 314-318
Abstract:
Political risks will become a much more important focus of risk management if populism and associated nationalism rise further in the West. The political, economic and financial stability we have grown used to could give way to volatility and instability. This paper explores the implications of such political changes and their many direct and indirect effects on risks to financial institutions, and makes some suggestions for how to revise risk management to reflect this potential.
