Abstract: The paper explores the relationship between financial literacy, overconfidence and risk propensity in a sample of young University students and graduates both with and without a specific background in finance and financial markets. The analysis confirms a gender gap in financial literacy and investment behaviour, in line with the literature on the topic. A specific background in finance, though not being a driver of overconfidence, is related to a higher propensity towards equity investments
