Abstract: Since Basel 1, Corporate Governance has acquired a mounting role in pursuing financial stability, while moving from internal controls and decision making functions to the domain of reputation risks, customer relations and protection of stakeholders. This role is central today in Basel 3 perspective, as stated by new Eba regulation and by the Bank of Italy at the national level. New professional profiles and competences are required and are to be developed by the financial industry. This process is complex and long lasting as it goes beyond technical issues, thoroughly involving corporate culture
