Economic Studies journal, 2001, issue 2, 77-106

Abstract: Out of the importance of education as a substantial condition for the progress of human society and the interdependence between the quality of human resources and the economic development comes the regular question about the role of the state policy in this sphere. The aim of this research is to investigate and characterize the main tendencies of the educa-tional policy evolution, the level and forms of state influence on the education system. On the basis of the theoretical summary, the results of the comparative analysis, the evaluations and conclusions about the status and changes in this sphere in Bulgaria during the last decade, are outlined the main directions for the development of the education policy with a view to its improvement and harmonization with the global processes and trends.
