Social Infrastructure of Bulgaria: National and Regional Dimensions

Abstract: Presented are the results of the carried out study in the field of the social infrastructure, which is one of the nine priority directions of the National plan for regional development (200 – 2006). Analyzed is the state of its key sectors (education and healthcare) on national level, as well as on level regions for planning. Revealed are the tendencies in their development, the main problems and reasons, which provoked them. Characterized are the differences in the network of schools (for primary, high and higher education) and of medical clinics, insured with relevant personnel, as well as of specialized places for providing social services. Based on the analysis are presented the generalized conclusions and views for solving the problems in those two sectors.
