Development Trends and Innovative Approaches in Agricultural Waste Management in Bulgaria and European Union

Annie Dimitrova and Atanas Pavlov

Economic Studies journal, 2024, issue 8, 91-113

Abstract: The reduction and effective use of waste generated by various economic activities has become a global issue that goes beyond individual countries. Agriculture as an integral part of the economy also contributes to environmental pollution, although the waste from various agricultural activities is mostly safe and recyclable. That quality enables agricultural waste reintegration into the economy (through appropriate processing) and provides opportunities for utilizing its full potential. In that sense, the aim of the study is to analyse the waste trends for the period 2016 – 2020, to compare the waste generated by agriculture in Bulgaria with one of the other member states of the European Union as well as to present good examples of its innovative use.
