Abstract:
The strategic product development is a possible way of innovation for regions, areas and destinations, which requires networking between the sectors. On the one hand, thinking beyond professions and cooperation is a great challenge for the destination management, on the other hand, it is a prerequisite of competitiveness of regions and areas. New synergy and innovation possibilities emerge through networking of professions and sectors. The regional value creation chain is lengthened by the regional value-creating partnerships and through the teamwork of individual actors’ competences which create new attractions and innovative tourism supply. This process has been analysed in the case of Smaland region. In Smaland, the new tourism product was built on the partnership of traditional trades and handicraft (glassblowing and glass art) and the tourism sector. The region of Smaland proves that effective innovation of strategic product development can be reached with only high-quality collective networking.
