Abstract:
There is no denial that the increasing incidence of rape has witnessed diversity in opinions across groups of different kinds. However, it is disturbing that majority of the divisions including those in the judiciary system have in the past blamed the victims of such heinous act. Consequently, this study sets out to investigate the influence of gender and gender value orientation on attitude towards the incidence of rape among University undergraduates in Cross River State. The research adopted a correlational survey research design. Three research questions were formulated and tested using regression analysis at .05 level of significance. Two-stage random sampling technique was used to select sample (382 students) for the study. Participants of the study included 225 students. A structured questionnaire with three sections (Demographic information, Gender Value Orientation Scale and Attitude towards Incidence of Rape Scale) was employed for data collection. The Cronbach’s alpha (α) for the scales were .710 and .734 for the gender value orientation and attitude towards the incidence of rape scales respectively.
