Educational Attainment and Employment Status: Assessing their Impact on Mental Health among Older Adults in the Philippinesâ€

Abstract: The current study examined how education level affect employment status and mental health are related among older individuals. The study utilized a stratified random sampling method to select 197 participants aged between 60 to 84 years from the Senior Citizen Chapter in Naawan, Misamis Oriental. This approach allowed for each age subgroup within the specified range was proportionately represented, thereby maintaining the randomness and integrity of the sample selection. Through Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and multiple regression analysis the study explored how factors employment status, educational attainment and their interaction influence the mental health of the participants. No significant association was found among these factors. The mental health scores of the participants did not show differences based on their employment status or education level when analyzed individually or collectively. These findings shed light on the association of socioeconomic factors with mental health among older individuals. The results suggest that there may be other unexamined factors at play. The lack of significant results highlights the need for a more comprehensive approach to understanding what influences mental health, in the elderly population.
