A Study on the Perception of Love Relationships among University Students

Abstract: This study includes a sample of 200 students from Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University and Khulna University. Its goal is to track the change of college students’ opinions on love throughout time. Love, which has historically been connected with sentiments of pleasure, connection, duty, and dependency, seems to be losing emotional relevance in today’s culture. The vast majority of participants (93%) perceived attraction and love as mutually dependent, with romantic love being the most common kind. While 72% believe that love is a major cause of misery, just 28% believe that love is beneficial. Regarding online relationships, 62% of poll respondents recognized a link between the growth in divorce rates and their usage of the internet and social media platforms. They attribute this relationship to the increased anonymity and sense of security provided by these platforms. Furthermore, despite certain positive improvements, the vast majority of people (80%) feel that modernity has a negative influence on romantic relationships. These results demonstrate that romantic relationships in the digital era are complex and ever-changing.
