Abstract: Political leadership exerts great influence on economic development outcomes in nations such as Nigeria. The complex interplay between leadership styles, governance and policy decisions shapes the nation’s growth trajectory. This paper explores the nexus between Nigeria’s political leadership and economic development, and contributes to the ongoing conversations on governance reforms, policy priorities and institutional strengthening, by advancing the imperative of effective and responsive leadership for socio-economic progress and equitable growth. The paper analyzes the historical context of Nigeria’s political landscape to unravel a diversity of leadership styles that have influenced structural and economic transformation. The paper examines the impact of Nigeria’s political leadership on its economic development trajectory, drawing on empirical evidence and scholarly research to analyse key challenges and dynamics. The paper underscores the importance of transparent, accountable and ethical leadership in driving sustainable economic growth and inclusive development in Nigeria.
