Abstract: This paper explores the significant yet often overlooked role social workers play in responding to crises, particularly in Nigeria, where economic hardship, political instability, and health challenges exacerbate difficult situations. These professionals are frequently among the first to respond, providing both immediate and long-term support to individuals and communities affected by such crises. The research examines the diverse roles they undertake—offering emergency assistance, emotional support, resource mobilization, and advocacy. It also discusses the methods they employ, including counselling, community engagement, and linking people to appropriate services.
