Journal of BRSA Banking and Financial Markets, 2024, vol. 18, issue 2, 150-169

Abstract: The financial stress experienced by individuals can affect life satisfaction by changing the balance between work and family life. The aim of this study is to examine the bilateral relations between financial stress, life satisfaction and work-family conflict and to determine that work-family conflict does not have a mediating role in the effect of financial stress on life satisfaction. In this context, data were obtained from 214 bank employees working in Erzincan province through a survey method. These data were analyzed using SPSS 27, AMOS 24 and SPSS PROCESS MACRO programs. As a result of the analyses, it was determined that the level of financial stress negatively affects life satisfaction and positively affects work-family conflict, and that there is a negative relationship between work-family conflict and life satisfaction. In addition, it was determined that work-family conflict has a mediating role in the effect of financial stress level on life satisfaction. As a result, it was shown that financial stress increases workfamily conflict and decreases life satisfaction. Stress management experienced in the workplace can be reflected in the work-family balance and the well-being of employees. Managers are advised to adopt approaches that will minimize employees' financial stress and reduce work-family conflict.
