The Nigerian Civil War and the Failure of United Nations to Set Up an International Criminal Tribunal: A Jurisprudential Analysis

Abstract: Purpose: The purpose of the study is to analyse the failures of United Nations to set up an international climinal tribunal. Methodology: The work is based on practical and historical approach; in this regard data will be collected via primary and secondary sources, ranging from textbooks, journals, newspapers, bulletins and law reports, emails, correspondence, oral account, videos, documentary, interviews, materials authored by various scholars and researchers on the topic. Findings: The study discovered that Lack of Political will Power , Unreliable Funding , Outdated Power Structure and International Political Horse-trading were some of the reasons why United Nations failed to set up International Criminal Tribunal. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: There should be need for reparation and restitution for these Biafrans who were victims. The study also recommends that a Sovereign National Conference should be convened rather than the National conference which took place in 2014.
