Factors Affecting Accent Identification and the Implications for Theories of Language Acquisition

Abstract: Previous studies have shown that various factors were found to affect the intelligibility of children to identify unfamiliar accents: children’s age and developmental stage, social interactions and language background and experiences. This paper aims to figure out the factors affecting accent identification and the implications for theories of language acquisition by summarizing and comparing several studies with different experimental designs.
