The Economics Profession in the 21st. Century: Theory Practice and Prospects

Godwin Nwaobi (gcnwaobi@gmail.com)

Brazilian Electronic Journal of Economics, 2002, vol. 5, issue 1

Abstract: The new millennium economics has evolved out of neoclassical economics over the last hundred years. The pace of change has increased over time and in the first half of the 21st century, the economics profession will change as much, or more, than it did in the last half of the 20 th century. These changes will occur both because of the internal tensions in the profession in the second part of the 20 th century and because of technological changes that affected both the research methods of economics and the structure of higher education generally. This paper therefore argued that the prospects of the economics profession remain positive (for the decades ahead).
