THE IMPACT OF ENTERPRISES’ ORIGINAL OWNERSHIP FORM ON FIXED ASSETS IN SERBIAN MANUFACTURING

Stefan Đerasimović

Ekonomske ideje i praksa, 2026, issue 61, 25-44

Abstract: This paper aims to analyse the structure of fixed assets (production capacities) in Serbian manufacturing, in light of long-term fragile growth in industrial production and the lack of capital as a production factor. We performed a panel analysis to investigate the impact of enterprises’ original ownership form on fixed assets to examine whether the inadequate growth of de novo firms could be one of the reasons for manufacturing underperformance. Our results show that privatized enterprises still have a dominant share in fixed assets and the highest impact on fixed asset ownership. Therefore, we conclude that domestic and foreign de novo firms did not make adequate breakthroughs during the transition period to enable the comprehensive transformation of Serbian manufacturing.
