Influence of Agricultural Investment on Food Security and Poverty Levels in Developing Nations

Abstract: Purpose: The aim of the study was to assess the influence of agricultural investment on food security and poverty levels in developing nations. Materials and Methods: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: The study found that increased investment in agricultural infrastructure, technology, and education improves crop yields and productivity, which directly impacts food availability and accessibility. Studies have shown that regions with higher agricultural investment often experience a reduction in hunger and malnutrition rates due to more efficient food production and distribution systems. Furthermore, agricultural investments create employment opportunities, both directly within farming and indirectly through related sectors such as transportation and processing, which contribute to economic growth and poverty alleviation. Overall, sustained and targeted agricultural investment is essential for achieving long-term food security and poverty reduction in developing countries. Implications to Theory, Practice and Policy: Sustainable livelihoods framework (SLF), human capital theory and resource-based view may be used to anchor future studies on assessing the influence of agricultural investment on food security and poverty levels in developing nations. Governments and development organizations should facilitate the adoption of modern agricultural technologies through training programs, subsidies, and partnerships with tech companies. Implementing policies that ensure the equitable distribution of agricultural subsidies is vital.
