Impact of Renewable Energy Adoption on Carbon Emissions Reduction in Chad

Abstract:
Purpose: The aim of the study was to assess the impact of renewable energy adoption on carbon emissions reduction in Chad. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: The study indicated that the increased utilization of renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and hydropower has played a crucial role in mitigating climate change by reducing the dependency on fossil fuels, which are major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. Studies show that countries investing heavily in renewable energy technologies have observed a notable decrease in their carbon footprints. For instance, European Union countries, which have been at the forefront of renewable energy adoption, have reported substantial declines in CO2 emissions, attributing this progress to stringent policies and substantial investments in green energy. Furthermore, the integration of renewable energy into national grids has not only reduced emissions but also enhanced energy security and created economic opportunities through job creation in the green energy sector. The transition to renewable energy is thus seen as a pivotal strategy in global efforts to achieve carbon neutrality and combat the adverse effects of climate change. Implications to Theory, Practice and Policy: Theory of planned behavior (TPB), diffusion of innovations theory and sustainability transition theory may be used to anchor future studies on assessing the impact of renewable energy adoption on carbon emissions reduction in Chad. In practice, compiling and disseminating best practices from countries that have successfully integrated renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions is essential. On the policy front, developing and implementing robust policy frameworks that support the adoption of renewable energy is imperative.
