Abstract:
Purpose: In leading this reflection, the objective is to understand the enigmatic paradox of peasantry in the conflict between communities and/or between social groups. Methodology: To do this, our approach, which is comprehensive and exploratory, emphasizes a qualitative approach by using a few typical cases (observed and documented) to support our claims. Findings: It is noteworthy that these violent conflicts often degenerate and intensify due to the weakening or circumvention of established forms of social regulation, especially regarding land. Peasantry is often viewed as a victim, sometimes as a culprit, but then manipulated, and more rarely as a fully-fledged actor. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: This study is a contribution to the analysis of conflicts that emerge in the context of developing countries and especially fragile states. It helps to uncover the root of conflicts that turn into crises within developing countries and provides a clear vision of their management by public authorities.
