Impact of Sustainability Initiatives on Competitive Positioning in Canada

Abstract:
Purpose: The purpose of this article was to examine impact of sustainability initiatives on competitive positioning in Canada. Methodology: This study adopted a desk methodology. A desk study research design is commonly known as secondary data collection. This is basically collecting data from existing resources preferably because of its low cost advantage as compared to a field research. Our current study looked into already published studies and reports as the data was easily accessed through online journals and libraries. Findings: Research indicates that sustainability initiatives in Canada enhance competitive positioning by boosting brand reputation, customer loyalty, and operational efficiencies. Companies integrating green practices not only meet stricter regulatory standards but also differentiate themselves in a market increasingly driven by eco-conscious consumers. Although initial investments and sector-specific challenges exist, the long-term benefits such as risk mitigation and value creation position these firms to outperform their competitors. Unique Contribution to Theory, Practice and Policy: Resource-based view (RBV) theory, natural resource-based view (NRBV) theory & stakeholder theory may be used to anchor future studies on the impact of sustainability initiatives on competitive positioning in Canada. Organizations should align sustainability initiatives with business objectives, integrating green innovation, renewable energy adoption, and waste reduction into their competitive strategies. Governments should introduce progressive policies that mandate sustainability initiatives in business operations, including carbon tax incentives, sustainability-linked financing, and stricter emissions standards.
