Abstract:
This paper seeks to elucidate how a common language can be possible within the globe. As the globe is becoming a small village with common goals like world trade, the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the United Nations, sports, and politics. To successfully achieve the goals, a common is needed, it is against this backdrop that this paper is set to evaluate pidgin as a pragmatic solution for a global lingua franca. The paper uses Bandura’s social cognitive theory as a framework. It adopts a qualitative and descriptive approach and the data was purposively collected, described, and analyzed. The findings revealed that it is possible to adopt pidgin as a global lingual Franca since there is a standard orthography developed for it. The paper recommends that policy makers should make provision for the recommendation of pidgin as a global language considering its usefulness to the world as well as making the resources needed for its evaluation possible for the success of the world’s common goals.
