Abstract:
Background: This study examined the prevalence, patterns, and determinants of overweight and obesity among adult patients attending the general outpatient clinic at Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of two hundred and ninety-six adult patients aged 18 years and above, selected by systematic random sampling method. Data was collected using an interviewer-administered questionnaire. Weight and height were measured. The non-modifiable, modifiable risk factors of obesity and body mass index were assessed. Chi-square was used to test for significant association between categorical variables and multivariate logistic regression to verify the independent factors associated with overweight and obesity.
