Abstract: This review explores the role of Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs) in oil and gas exploration within Nigerian waters, a region critical to the industry yet characterized by environmental and operational challenges. USVs are revolutionizing marine operations by enabling safe and efficient data acquisition in hazardous environments. This study examines the technological advancements that enhance USV capabilities, the environmental benefits of their deployment, and the regulatory landscape affecting their use in Nigeria. By highlighting both the opportunities and challenges associated with USV integration in offshore exploration, this review aims to provide insights for industry stakeholders and policymakers. Recommendations for fostering collaboration, investing in technology, and developing supportive regulations are discussed, emphasizing the potential of USVs to transform oil and gas exploration practices in Nigeria while promoting sustainable marine operations.
