Abstract: The present solar cells – first and second generation solar cells are very expensive. They are formed from single crystal and poly-crystal silicon (Si) and Si base, CIGS, CdTe and III-V thin films respectively. This led to the idea of third generation photovoltaic modules. This paper presents works on different types of third generation solar cells. This includes organic photovoltaics (OPVs), copper zinc tin sulfide (CZTS), perovskite solar cells, dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), and quantum dot solar cells.
