Abstract: The Phytochemical screening, antimicrobial activity and minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of the leave extracts of Cephalanthus occidentallis were studied. Preliminary phytochemical investigation revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, anthraquinoes, saponins, glycosides, tannins, carbohydrates and terpenes. Antimicrobial studies showed that the ethanol extract had considerable activities and significant inhibition against streptococcus pyogen, salmonella typhii, shigella dysentery and escherichia coli, Ethanol extract had higher zone of inhibition (32mm) against salmonella typhi at 0.5µg/ml to 5×104 µg/ml. The MIC of ethanol extract against S. pyogene, E. coli, S. dysentery and S. typhii were 12.5mg/ml, 25mg/ml, 25mg/ml and 12.5mg/ml respectively.
