Abstract: Although the use of the lexical approach in enhancing English learners’ oral communication performance has gained much attention in the TESOL world, it is still a neglected area in Vietnam. The present study is conducted in order to address this issue. On the basis of the theories presented, a teaching experiment was conducted at Nguyen Hue University from September 15 to December 14, 2012. The results show that not only the students’ English oral communication performance was improved significantly, but also their attitudes were shown positively. Recommendations are made for teachers of English who are interested in using the approach to enhance learners’ oral communication performance.
