Research on Efficiency Measurement of Urban Land-Use in China

Abstract: Whether to consider undesirable outputs factors in the calculation of urban land has an influence on the evaluation of China’s urbanization process and land-use efficiency. BC2-DEA model and Malmquist index were applied to measure China’s land-use efficiency from 2003 to 2010, from both static and dynamic perspectives. It is showed that static efficiency (CE) approached to the frontier owing to pure technical efficiency, while dynamic efficiency (MLP) reduced 9.36% with an average reduction of 1.4%, which was mainly driven by technical degeneration. There are significant differences in land-use efficiency among China’s four regions. The East region enjoyed the highest value both on CE and MLP, while the Northeast China showed a downward trend on CE and its value of MLP ranked bottom across the country.
